Summary
Art class was usually Dee’s favorite time of the day, when fluttering Mrs. Randolph took over the class and the children could talk as she bounced about the room, but today she couldn’t wait for it to end. Their project was to make Mother’s Day cards, and Mrs. Randolph encouraged them to think outside of the box in her typical flowery way. Dee flinched when she approached her and O’s desks. O was making construction paper strawberries for his card, and unconsciously Dee followed the fruit theme by decorating her own card with blueberries. Mrs. Randolph’s over-the-top excitement at their cards made their silence feel even more awkward. As she continued working, Dee wondered what possibly could have turned O against her so suddenly.
