Summary

In Chapter 40, narrated by Lindsey, when Sophie finally arrives home, Lindsey is shocked Jared is with her. She knows she needs to get both of them to safety. Sophie tells them she wrecked Marcus’ car. Lindsey looks at Marcus’ calm face and realizes that even though she thought Marcus was always calm and in control, he was just masking his anger well. Grasping for ways to get out of the house, Lindsey insists on taking Sophie to the hospital but Sophie tells her mother she is cold and does not want to walk back to the car.
