Summary

In Chapter 1, set in November 2005, even though Andrew planned the trip to Mexico as a Christmas present for Lindsey and Sophie, an apology for going too far and hurting Lindsey during an argument, he becomes angry and jealous on the trip when he thinks she was flirting with another man. Andrew insists that Lindsey touched the waiter’s hand intentionally and claims he saw the way Lindsey looked at him. Because she has been drinking, Lindsey feels brave and argues with Andrew.

When Lindsey returns from washing her hands, Andrew and Sophie are nowhere to be found. Seeing Sophie’s dolphin float out among the waves, Lindsey worries that Sophie went out by herself.
