Scenes 10, 11 and 12 Summary
Scene 10: All the women sit by a river, laughing as Nuna applies beauty masks to the faces of Azra and Jelena. Conversation reveals that the masks came in aid packages from France, and the women joke about the impracticality of the gift (see "Quotes," p. 69). Jelena comments on how the packages also contain sardines, comparing the way sardines are packed together in tight spaces to the way the refugees are packed together, waiting. This leads to a conversation about the things the women are waiting for, with Melissa attempting to turn the conversation into a formalized session, a creation of a poem.
