Summary

As Chapter Thirty-Five begins, Chan is struggling to deal with the weight and intensity of Young’s absence. He stays away from school for the morning after the funeral, but goes in at lunch, where he again feels himself watched – not because he is Korean, but because he has a dead sister. He encounters All-Pro, and they talk about whether they will go back to practice. All-Pro says it will help him deal with his feelings if he goes, which leads Chan to erupt in anger, accusing him of not caring that Young is dead. Mikko [sic] says he loved Young more than Chan can know, and says he probably will go to practice. Chan calls him a “‘shallow jerk’” (204) and goes to class.

After class, Chan is visited by Coach Thorson, who takes him out to a restaurant to talk...
