Part Four. The Adventures of Aeneas Summary and Analysis
After escaping from Troy, Aeneas travelled with his son, father and a group of other survivors to find a new home. After encountering some of the same dangers that Odysseus and Jason faced on their adventures, a storm washed them up near Carthage on the north coast of Africa. There Queen Dido welcomed them and fell in love with Aeneas. Aeneas stayed with her for a time, but eventually Jupiter sent a message telling him to remember his great destiny, and to sail for Italy. He obeyed immediately, and a heartbroken Dido committed suicide. Aeneas visited the underworld briefly, before sailing to a spot near the River Tiber on the Italian coast.
