Summary

In Chapter 2, the narrator told Reva that she planned to sleep for a year, and Reva expressed concern. She suggested the narrator just needed “a good cry” (57). After being asked by Dr. Tuttle to keep a dream journal, the narrator invented elaborate nightmares to convince Dr. Tuttle that she was mentally unwell and in need of more medication. The narrator recalls driving by her parents' old house in Poughkeepsie with Trevor and having an emotional reaction to the sight. Rather than express sympathy, Trevor had asked for oral sex. She further recalls her parents' distant treatment of her, and how her mother barely spoke to her during her childhood. She remembers a very awkward and uninformative sex talk her parents gave her just before she went away to college. The narrator still owns this house, but it was being rented at this time...
