Denmark, South Carolina is the town that Bakari considers to be his hometown. Bakari’s family moved to Denmark, SC when Bakari was six years old. Bakari was raised there, and he feels a deep sense of connection to it. It was also the town in which his father was born and raised. The town is rural, fairly impoverished, and is predominantly back. Despite his family’s modest financial means, Bakari enjoyed his childhood in Denmark, SC. Bakari cites his formative years in Denmark as contributing to his progressive politics. Bakari is dedicated to address racial inequality and economic inequality in the U.S.
