Part 3, Chapters 26 - 32 Summary

In Chapter 26, Dawit tries out the Life Ritual on Teacake, the family cat. The next morning, he surprises Jessica by packing two bags and telling her they are going on a trip to a cabin in the Everglades. He is worried because Teacake has not come back to life but tries to cover his fears. David plans to reveal the secret of immortality to Jessica during the weekend. Because Kira wants to say goodbye to Teacake, he checks on the cat one last time. The cat is still dead. David collects his hunting knife and leaves.

In Chapter 27, David and Jessica travel to the secluded island. The owner of the cabin tells them there is no phone, no cell phone service and he won't be back to get them until the following evening.
