Summary
In Chapter 14, Sally and Che are up early together again. She comments that she is sorry Che did not get the genes to make him a good sleeper, like Rosa and David appear to have. Che realizes that one’s temperament is not entirely determined by genes. Che decides to try to talk to her about Rosa again. Sally ducks Che’s questions and will say only that Rosa is unusual. Che is so angry because she will not listen to him that he realizes he is clenching his fists. Sally tells him that he was not normal at ten either, that he was obsessed with violence. She compares him to David who physically hurt people before he learned to contain his violence. She says she wishes Rosa was more sensitive but wishes Che was less sensitive because he seemed to get...
