From whose perspective is My Own Words written? How does this authorial vantage point shape the texts thematic explorations?
My Own Words is written from both authors Mary Hartnett and Wendy W. Williams' collective first person perspective, and Ginsburg's first person perspective. After volunteering themselves to work with Ginsburg on the writing of My Own Words, Hartnett and Williams collected and organized all of Ginsburg's writings, speeches, and lectures enclosed in the text. Their voices appear as a unified entity in the form of prefacing, introductory, conclusive, and contextualizing remarks. However, their perspective acts as a guiding narrative presence, and never assumes authorial autonomy over Ginsburg's words. Ginsburg's voice, therefore, predominates the text.
