Summary

Chapter 18 opens with Ebony thinking about how Bianca and the other girls are treating her. Monique tells Ebony that she must prove herself if she is to join the Nina Flavas crew. The girls play Double Dutch and Ebony makes robot sounds while turning the rope. It distracts Bianca when Bianca tries to jump in. Bianca falls and hits her head. The rest of the girls are angry with Ebony, thinking Ebony made Bianca mess up on purpose.

In Chapter 19, Ebony follows Diane, Bianca, and the rest of the girls. Bianca holds a popsicle tube to her head. The girls do not want Ebony to join them. They see a sign for a break dancing/Double Dutch competition at the Apollo Theater. The girls are interested in being part of the competition.
