Summary

In “Saturday,” the narrator wakes up to her husband talking. He talks to her “the most” on Saturday because it is “his favorite day” (190). The narrator dislikes Saturdays because they are different every week. Today is their daughter’s birthday, too, so they “have to host a small party” (190).

While the narrator showers, her husband tells her “the doubts, disappointments, and joys of his week” (192). Over breakfast, he suggests they go see a movie. Because the movie is about “a man leading a double life,” the narrator suggests they focus on the party instead (192).

The narrator meets Lucie “at the tennis club” (196). Over coffee afterwards, Lucie tells the narrator about her sister Marion.
