Summary
In “Friday,” the narrator studies her body in relation to her husband’s. Their movements imply that he “is the sun” around which she gravitates (149). When her husband starts talking, she begins recording him. She wants to stop, but the recordings are “like a life preserver” (151). She studies his mess, choosing not to comment. She does not like arguing about banal things.
Friday is green, making it bad for concentration but good for luck (153). When the narrator was little, she was scolded and teased for associating colors with days. The associations change how she sees the world, too. She tries focusing on her translation. Finally she finds a name for the novel.
The narrator takes a break from her work to further her “online romantic education” (158). She wants to know if her husband is cheating on her and how to make her relationship last...
