The scenes enclosed within the first and final sections, "Me'Med" and "Snowflake," take place in Washington, D.C. Sem and Sanja have lived her for several years. In the narrative present, they reside in an apartment on the outskirts of the city.

In "Me'Med," Sem is getting ready for work at home, when he suddenly has a heart attack. In "Snowflake," Sanja's sudden stroke at the apartment, mirrors Sem's earlier encounter with death. Both husband and wife fall sick at home, must spend an extended amount of time in the local hospital, and journey towards recovery back at their apartment.

When Sem returns home from the hospital, he hopes for comfort and familiarity. However, all evidences of his former self have been removed or erased. Similarly, when Sanja returns home from her time in the hospital, she remembers nothing of their life there. Though the structure...
