Summary
In pages 36 - 81 of "Red Bandana," Sem addresses his narrative to his son, Harun. After a checkup at the doctor, he decided to stop taking "the medication [he had] been taking for nearly five years" (36). The medicine was worsening his memory.
In order to understand what he might have already forgotten, Sem flew to Arizona to see Harun. He also hoped writing his diary entries to Harun would give him something to pass on.
Being in the airport reminded him of his flight to the States in 1996.
At the Phoenix airport, Harun waited in the lot wearing a red bandana. "For the next five days," they planned to "wander aimlessly along American roads" (39).
When they first arrived in the States, they lost their luggage. Because they "were refugees from a war" the suitcase was important (40).
