The unnamed speaker is the narrator and the only concrete character in the poem. The speaker does not provide any physical description of themselves, and therefore they characterize themselves entirely through their thoughts and words. It is clear that they are a lover of nature based on their emotional reaction to the rainbow. Furthermore, they appear to value the experiences of youth and the way that such experiences shape us throughout our lives. These are common traits among many of Wordsworth’s speakers, and as such one can assume that the identity of the speaker is closely tied to Wordsworth himself.
