Summary
Chapter 22, titled “The Visitor,” finds Karen, Deeze, and Mama all at home together in the evening. Deeze offers to finish folding Mama’s laundry and to go rest but Mama says trying to sleep is no use because these days ‘Victor’ wakes her up every night. Later that night, when Karen asks Deeze who ‘Victor’ is he suddenly leaves the apartment and, despite Karen’s protests, walks up to the Gronan's apartment. Once Deeze enters the Gronan apartment, Mr. Silverberg appears at the top of the steps and accuses Karen of stealing his tapes. Karen admits to stealing them but says she wanted to listen to them to solve the mystery of Anka’s murder. Mr. Silverberg suddenly changes his demeanor and says Karen should bring the tapes back tomorrow and they would continue listening together.
