Summary

In Chapter 61, Elena sits by Nino, shooing Antonio away. The reception is going poorly, people are murmuring about the state of the food, but Elena ignores it and draws Nino into conversation. They talk for a long time, and Elena is ashamed at how she's treated him. She loves their intellectual talk. She wants Nino to take her away from the neighborhood. Antonio interrupts and asks her to dance. They dance as Elena watches the wedding guests. Antonio is angry at her that she's spent the evening talking to Nino, and leaves her alone on the dance floor. She hovers for a moment between joining Nino and going after Antonio.
