Summary

Before Chapter 8 opens, time passes. Caroline talks about the events that led her to this point in her life. She has a mountain bike now and it takes about a half hour from her house to the library. She has neighbors, including one that raises llamas. On the day at the mall in Boise, she feared she would be followed. She used an ATM to check Father's bank account and was surprised at the amount, “which is plenty” (213).
