Chapter 9 Summary
Chapter 9 takes place on the next day in the novel's timeline, Friday. As Victor drives to work, he ponders Marsha's concerns. At the office, he is served with a summons in the Sharon Carver case, and Colleen tells him that the independent investigation of William Hurst has turned up glaring irregularities.
Victor reviews new test results, and discovers that Maurice Hobbs and Mark Murray both had cephaloclor in their systems when they died. Victor slowly realizes this means they were murdered, and he also realizes the antibiotic was probably given to them at the Chimera daycare. Victor also learns that the hacker calls have been traced back to his own home, from his own account login. Victor becomes concerned for VJ's safety, and tries to locate him in the lab.
