Summary
Pages 54 - 102 are the second half of the first movement. The perspective starts from the Old Musician as his friend, Dr. Narunn has tea with him. The Doctor offers to get him glasses, but the Old Musician demurs. They talk about the boy coming for the ceremony, and Dr. Narunn will perform the chanting. Dr. Narunn sees a woman walking into the temple, and he gets up to talk to her.
The perspective changes to Teera as she runs up the stairs of her hotel. She had fled the monastery after seeing her father’s name enshrined on a dome. When they drove away she saw a sign, “In the memory of Music Master Aung Sokhon and family who lost their lives” and this devastated her (59). Once in her hotel room, she weeps.
The Old Musician, meanwhile, thinks about the monks...
