Chapter 41 Summary
Peter Morris is taken into custody but refuses to admit his guilt. The police, however, don't find his confession necessary. Hidden in his attic, they found a bloody hammer, Haley Cross' driver's license and Detective Sweeney's wallet.
This doesn't satisfy Alec. He wants Morris to confess and worries the evidence could have been planted. But he is in the minority. Wincott believes Morris is the man and Lt. Lewis considers the case closed. He insists on personally notifying the Madisons of the evidence against Morris.
When Alec says goodbye to Regan for the final time, he reminds her she knew all along he was leaving. She says she understands and wishes him luck with his new career and with his life.
