Summary
Each chapter in Ms. Bixby’s Last Day is narrated from the first-person perspective of one of the three protagonists. In the first chapter, “Topher,” Topher narrates. Fox Ridge sixth-grader Topher and his best friends, Steve and Brand, are all convinced Rebecca Roudabush has cooties. Brand likes to make up words or shorten them, such as calling cooties “coods.” The three boys tell Rebecca about her illness, who in turn licks her hand and rubs it on Steve. She then chases after Topher. Topher runs into Ms. Bixby. Topher explains there are six kinds of teachers in the world: Zombies, who are very old and boring; Caff-Adds, who drink lots of coffee and talk too fast; Dungeon Masters, who are very strict and demand quiet; Spielbergs, who show movies all the time; the Noobs, new teachers who are hopeful and optimistic, and who burn...
