Summary

In Chapter 9, Mrs. Harris and Natasha arrived at Mr. Fauvel’s house and were greeted by a disorderly mess. His sister was away for the week and the flat was covered in a thick layer of dust and strewn with dirty dishes and laundry. The accountant was embarrassed and reluctantly accepted Mrs. Harris and Natasha’s offer to tidy the apartment. Natasha relished in the domestic work and took a bath in the tub. As the women cleaned and tidied, Mr. Fauvel ran out to procure groceries and the three enjoyed a lavish dinner together. Natasha and André both desired to spend more time with one another but felt that the other was disinterested in their company.

The following day, Mr. Fauvel offered to show Mrs. Harris the sites of Paris and was astonished when the older woman suggested he invite Natasha...
