Summary
Jo and Shelley live together. Lila resents Shelley. When Jo and Shelley have been together for about ten years, Jo is diagnosed with breast cancer for a second time. She tells Shelley and Bethie. She plans to tell her family at her daughter, Kim's, Thanksgiving dinner. She does not get the opportunity, because her other two daughters, Missy and Lila, fight over dinner. Lila, whom Missy gave a temporary job moving furniture into a new office complex for Missy's boss, the editor, Lester Shaub, hints that Lester is unethical. When Missy defends Lester, Lila hurls the Jello Jo brought for Thanksgiving dinner at Missy's face. She misses Missy, but the Jello stains an expensive painting on Kim's wall. An enraged Lila trips on a Turkish rug as she is leaving. She injures her ankle.
