Summary
In “Ovulating,” after Miles does a series of thoughtful things for the narrator, she realizes she has “found [her] true love” (167). When she is ovulating, they have sex. She recalls “a birth control reformer” arguing that heterosexual couples have “sex all wrong” (167).
While having sex, the narrator worries Miles will impregnate her. She decides to invent a new form of mothering. The “hardest thing” is not being a mother (168). Realizing that not giving oneself “space or time” is a womanly problem, the narrator decides to “take up as much space” as she can (169, 170).
In “PMS,” the narrator consults the coins about her emotionality and unhappiness. She wonders if writing can help her overcome the demon.
The narrator feels upset when she sees Libby again. Motherhood is already changing her.
The narrator and Miles are fighting. She knows she will soon forget her bad...
