Summary
"Chapter 14: Judgment (After Intermission)" begins with a description of “you,” holding a “gavel” and wearing a “robe”; “the actors” reportedly “sit upright” in “the final moments of the trial” (256). Murad sweats, while Aurangzeb looks tense. Mumtaz watches Darashikoh. The prosecutor presents his closing argument. He speaks of the crime, the death of a boy by auto accident. Darashikoh has argued that he is being framed, but the prosecutor argues that there is no real evidence and that Darashikoh, as a corrupt drug-dealer, is not trustworthy. The prosecutor calls for justice. Someone from the audience asks for a verdict.
In Chapter 15, Darashikoh hears a gunshot. Murad silently sits in the passenger seat with his gun in his lap. Outside Darashikoh’s residence, Murad gets out of the car, stands for a moment in silence, and then drives away in his rickshaw without paying...
