Summary
In "Chapter 7: Four," after waking up, Darashikoh discovers his electricity has been turned off due to lack of payment. Darashikoh tells Manucci of this development and then instructs his servant to make him breakfast and go to the store. Manucci informs him that there is no money. Accusatory, Darashikoh grudgingly gives Manucci more money for groceries. Darashikoh showers and laments his monetary woes. He is especially angered by the high expense of air-conditioning.
Darashikoh receives a phone call from Aurangzeb’s father (“Khurram uncle”) who offers Darashikoh help in finding a job, inviting Darashikoh to come to his home later that evening. Khurram Shah was Darashikoh’s father’s best friend from the military, and he has always taken care of Darashikoh: giving him clothes, education, and eventually a job.
