Summary
In "Pavo Cristatus—Indian Peafowl," Jessa recalls memories of Brynn's mother, Marsha Wiley. Married several times, Marsha was always between questionable boyfriends. One summer day, Jessa, Marsha, and Brynn sat outside Marsha's trailer talking about the men in her life. Jessa and Brynn filled an inflatable pool. Marsha ran around in Brynn's clothes, smoking and drinking. Brynn bothered Jessa about not wearing a swimsuit. Marsha told her she had a nice body. She asked Jessa about the shop, while giving her a shoulder rub. The man next door called to Marsha, interrupting them. When Marsha ran over to the man, Brynn is relieved, begging Jessa to go to her house instead. She told Jessa to kill her if she ever acted like Marsha.
