Who Is Included and Who Is Excluded

The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom is intended to be a march to help advance the rights of Black people throughout the country. Some of the organizers are intent on helping all workers, not just Black ones. Despite this desire to help people and to be a voice for the voiceless, not everyone is given an equal opportunity and prominence in the march and in the speaking portion of the day. This angers people to greater and lesser degrees.

One group of people that is largely left out of places of prominence in the march is women. None of the members of the Big Ten are women, and none of the major speakers are women. This is the case despite the fact that many women play instrumental roles in preparing for the march and in getting all of the people...
