Structure
Williams and Long break their novel up into five main parts. Each part is then broken up into numerous different chapters of different lengths. These different parts help center the chapters contained therein around the main idea and main area of focus. For example, one section is entitled “On the Way,” and this section details the different journeys people take to get to the march. In addition, the final part, “The Lincoln Memorial Program,” is centered around just that aspect of the march. Each chapter is titled, and these titles help explain the content of the chapter, but the strong words used in some of these titles contain connotations that provide insight into the authors’ and others’ opinions about certain events. For example, in one chapter, the Nazis are called hatemongers, demonstrating the clear idea that these people are there to spread hate, not to maintain peace...
