Summary

The next section is titled “Here Today, Gone Tomorrow” and consists of a series of memories. At age nine, Aaron cries uncontrollably as he tries to tell his mother he believes he is gay. When Aaron cannot get the words out, Eric shouts it, then says “No one cares” (173). Eric says he is “trying to help” but calls Aaron “Freak.” When Aaron and Eric get a PlayStation console for Christmas, Eric berates Aaron for always choosing girl characters. At age 11, Aaron begins to notice Brendan in a romantic way. At age 12, Aaron tells Mark that men played the female roles in Shakespearean plays. Mark says, “Don't ever act like a girl” (176).
