Shady leaves to collect some old wood at a neighbor's and Abilene sneaks back over to Miss Sadie's, hoping the woman is not home and she will be able to get her compass back. However, Miss Sadie has moved the compass and Abilene is forced to go inside the house. Miss Sadie mistakenly thinks Abilene is there for a fortune teller's reading and demands one of her dimes for the service. Abilene reluctantly gives it up, but refuses to hand over her other dime.
