Chapters 23 and 24 Summary
Dean gets the younger children to give the dog a bath. This gives the older children a chance to hear Mr. Appleton tell them about what is going on outside. When the grownups compliment the children on how they have set things up in the store, Dean gets an uneasy feeling as if the grownups are going to take over.
Robbie assesses the damage to the bus. He enlists the little kids to help him fix it. Robbie is even able to get Sahalia to help, even though she has been acting as if she is an outcast for the past couple of days.
