Ellenwood, Georgia
Ellenwood is the town in Georgia where Fly grows up. Written from Ellenora and Fly's perspectives respectively, the chapters "Extermination" and "Other Women" both take place in this setting. Fly lives in Ellenwood with his mother and father. Though his parents are together throughout his upbringing, Fly's upbringing in Ellenwood is not entirely peaceful or happy. Indeed, Fly spends most of his time alone in his room. Meanwhile, Ellenora spends most of her time quilting alone and worrying about her husband and son. She is upset when Fly leaves for college, yet knows that he has to move on with his life. Fly later returns to Ellenwood when Ellenora tells him Gary is leaving her.
