Summary
In Chapter 27, two years later, Annie prepares dinner for family and friends. With time, her family has healed. During dinner, she tells her guests about Karen's recent death. Karen left Annie her cat and a large sum of money. The group talks about wills, "who had one, who didn't" (263). Lucas is bothered by the conversation, believing wills are "a concession to death" (263). The conversation turns to legacy. Annie talks about the things she would want to be remembered for. Everyone says they will remember her parties. She gets her camera, and starts taking photos.
Lucas mentions the upcoming release of author Ian Pedersen's new novel. Everyone notices Annie's shocked response. She met him while staying at the artist colony, MacDowell. After everyone leaves, Annie realizes, for the first time in years, she misses Graham.
