Summary
At dinner Thursday night, Marianne Lucas shares with Frank her story of surviving a disastrous marriage. Not entirely surprising, she used the experience to help shape her career as a high- profile divorce lawyer. Frank’s relationship with Marianne in high school had never been intense although he recalls an awkward conversation once that had lapsed into silence. He was sure she was close to saying she loved him. He remembers the opportunity to make out with Marianne in a toolshed in the backyard of one of his buddies where the gang regularly went to smoke cigarettes and down beers. Instead of using their time alone to make out, however, he takes her through the elaborate plot of War and Peace because she reminded the ever-nerdy Frank of one of the characters. What they shared, however, was being tormented as outsiders, halfies...
