The Learning Center
Claudia views the Learning Center as proof of her inadequacy. She fears that her peers with see her as stupid if they know that she has to go to there. In the end, though, she realizes how much going to the Learning Center helps her learn and prosper.

Claudia is determined to go to Banneker, a very competitive high school, even though she struggles academically, for the sole reason that Monday wants to go there.
