Summary
Maya was heartbroken when Annie left. She tried to board the train when it was ready to take off, but Vivian stopped her. However, children are resilient. Maya was going to make the most of it. She had her brother with her again and she was beginning to like, maybe love, her mother. Vivian soon had a heart-to-heart talk with Maya and Bailey. She told them that their reputations were more important than the clothes they had or big cars they may drive some day. She and Clidell were honest people who didn’t lie but who laughed at lot – at themselves and at each other. Papa Ford, a houseman who lived on the property, cleaned and cooked; but, the kids were responsible for keeping their own rooms clean.
