Summary
Maya and Annie traveled on the train to California. Bailey stayed with his Uncle Willie. He would come later. Maya was nervous about meeting her mother. Annie assured Maya that her mother wanted her there and that she shouldn’t be afraid. When they met at the train station, Maya thought her mother looked like a movie star. She felt horrible because she wasn’t pretty or even cute. But, Vivian embraced Maya and told her she was beautiful. Annie had always been loving and affectionate, but she didn’t kiss the children. Vivian was smothering Maya in kisses – something very new for Maya.
