Chapters 5-8 Summary
In chapter five, Julia asks Sam about whether or not her husband had planned on leaving his estate to the church, as the pastor, Larry Ledbetter, had told Julia. Sam tells Julia that Wesley Lloyd had never mentioned anything of the kind to him, but that there has been talk at the church of contesting the will on the grounds that a verbal promise to the clergy should have some type of weight. Sam also tells Julia that this is another reason he has resigned as an Elder with the church. Trying to separate a widow from her estate, one that Sam is executor of, does not sit well with him.
