Summary
Mundic suffers from beriberi in Chapter 45. He is stopped by the police on his way to the bungalow. He is confused by the policeman’s French and responds to all of his inquiries with “Non” (281). The result is that the policeman is led to believe that Margery and Enid are not staying at the bungalow. He drives off.
In Chapter 46, Enid mulls over baby names. She finally settled on Gloria Benson. She wants her child to have Margery’s last name because she knows Margery will always care for Gloria. Margery plans on selling on her specimens in order to get enough money to get them home. Her plan gets disrupted when Enid gets sick. Enid has hallucinations and is constantly freezing.
