Summary

In Chapter 13, Ty'ree wakes Lafayette. Lafayette cannot immediately free himself from the dream, and he talks about the fish and dog he had dreamed about earlier. Ty'ree says Charlie has been arrested. Lafayette tries to avoid going with Ty'ree, but Ty'ree says they both have to go to the station. Lafayette notices it is raining, and goes back for his rain coat. His arms are too long for the sleeves, but he wears it anyway. Lafayette wants to say that Charlie “always found a way to mess up” (95), but notices that Ty'ree already looks like he is thinking that. Lafayette decides to say nothing.

In Chapter 14, Lafayette and Ty'ree arrive at the police station. The first man they see is a “skinny man sitting high up like a judge” (97). He gives Ty'ree directions to the hall where Charlie is being held. Lafayette and...
