Summary
In Chapter 10, Lafayette asks why Ty'ree never said he was with their father the day their father saved the lady from the lake. Ty'ree says he does not know why it is important, but Lafayette says it is important because they are brothers. Ty'ree tells the rest of the story – that the woman was taken to the hospital but their father seemed fine and was allowed to go home, wrapped in a blanket. He got sick later that night and died. Ty'ree feels guilty that he told his father to save the woman, and refused to talk about the event for a long time in an effort to forget he was there. Ty'ree says that Charlie was not there when their father entered the lake, and was not there when their mother died. The two situations have made him “mad and helpless” (80). Lafayette...
