Summary
In Chapter 7, Lafayette has fallen asleep. He wakes to the sound of Ty'ree singing and the smell of frying chicken. Lafayette had been dreaming that he was at his aunt Cecile's. She had a stream nearby where he could fish for trout. In the dream, he had caught fish but Charlie knocked the bucket from his hands. Ty'ree enters, saying it is almost time to eat. Ty'ree and Lafayette talk about their lives over dinner. Ty'ree points out that they have all changed, but Lafayette argues that Charlie has changed for the worse. Ty'ree says that Lafayette stays inside too much. Lafayette lies, saying he is not welcome at Poncho's store. Actually, Lafayette and Ty'ree had gone with Charlie to Poncho's where Charlie apologized. Poncho said Charlie had “done his time” (54) and that they were welcome.
