The continent of Africa is the broad-strokes setting for all the stories in the collection. Africa's history as the object of colonizing activity by white, British, Christian Europeans is the social, cultural, spiritual, and political context within which all the stories in the collection unfold.
Kenya
`The African nation of Kenya is the setting for almost all of the stories in the collection. Kenya is the author's home country, and has an extensive history of both having been colonized by Britain and of rebellion against that colonization. Again, all the stories, thematic considerations, and character narratives set in Kenya are defined, to varying degrees, by this history.
