Summary
In the fourth section, we open with Anderton being escorted back to the police station by Leopold Kaplan’s men, who intend to turn him in so that Anderton will be sent to the detention camp and thus unable to kill Kaplan. The car is stopped and broken into explosively, and Anderton is removed from it. A man named Fleming gives him money and a fake ID, and tells him that Lisa is the one who is framing him. When Anderton asks Fleming who he is, Fleming responds that he is part of “a protective society” which is “a sort of police force that watches the police” (83). Anderton runs away, making his escape.
