Friendship

The theme of friendship is an important one in Million-Dollar Throw. Nate has several friends on the football team but his primary friendship is with Abby McCall. Nate and Abby have known each other for several years and trust each other implicitly. Abby is able to lift Nate's spirits as he and his family go through financial challenges. She is also the one who encourages Nate to enter the Million-Dollar Throw contest and motivates him when he has feelings of doubt about whether or not he can step up to the challenge. Even though Abby's failing eyesight is forcing major changes into her life, she is still supportive of Nate, even showing up at Gillette Stadium on Thanksgiving night to cheer him on during the contest. Abby will not say whether or not she actually saw Nate's football throw but she is there for him regardless...
