Summary
Chapter 6 continues. Ma’s story about Peggy and Real Milkman makes it clear that Real Milkman loved Peggy and was devastated when she became a nun. He therefore became somewhat withdrawn, but he still was quite selfless and often helped other people. Ma claims that her marriage to another man is proof that she was able to overcome her love for Real Milkman. However, Young Woman is thoroughly unconvinced. She knows that the community’s culture strongly discourages people from marrying for love or personal fulfillment. Instead, marriage is seen as a duty from which no true joy should be derived. A few days later, Young Woman hers that the Tablets Girl’s sister found a letter written by the Tablets Girl.
